Let Your Nissan Take on Sudden Stops with Foward Collision Warning and Emergency Braking

Nissan has been a pioneer in ways to help drivers avoid accidents. Many of our models offer Forward Collision Warning which alerts the driver that the car in front is slowing down  (even looks two cars ahead). This warning lets the driver know an accident may occur unless the brakes are applied.

The Altima and Murano system adds Forward Emergency Braking that applies the brakes for the driver in case action isn’t taken. This technology helps Nissan owners avoid accidents before they happen. Come take a drive one of the advanced braking safety Nissans that are available to own today at Nissan of LaGrange.

“Driver Attention Alert” available on new 2017 Nissan Muranos and Maximas at Nissan of LaGrange

Nissan's

One of the smallest details of the 2017 Nissan Murano might just be one of its most important – a little amber coffee cup symbol that may appear in the center of the instrument panel. The cup is part of the visual and audible warning provided by Nissan’s Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system, which is designed to help detect drowsy and inattentive driving. DAA is offered on 2016-2017 Maximas as part of a comprehensive suite of safety and driving aids, and is also available on the 2015 and newer Murano crossover.

According to a November 2014 study by the AAA (formerly the American Automobile Association), 37 percent of drivers report having fallen asleep while driving at some point in their lives, with 11 percent having done so in the past year. Results of the survey suggest that drowsy drivers are also involved in approximately 300,000 crashes each year, 6,400 of them fatal. Driver fatigue and inattention also pose safety concerns, which the Driver Attention Alert system is intended to address.

How Nissan’s DAA Works

Nissan’s DAA system adapts to each individual driver. DAA monitors steering input patterns (using steering angle sensors) during a period of driving to establish a baseline. It continuously compares subsequent driving patterns to a baseline using a statistical analysis of steering correction errors.

If it detects driving behavior consistent with a drowsy or inattentive driver, the system uses an audible chime sound and displays the amber coffee cup with a message reading, “Take a break?” in the vehicle’s information display. The DAA includes logic to help address false detection, road curvatures, lane changes, braking and even poor road conditions. The system automatically resets when the engine is turned off. It can also be turned off by the driver if desired.

It is the driver’s responsibility to remain alert at all times. DAA is only a warning to inform the driver of a potential lack of driver attention or drowsiness. It does not detect and provide an alert in every situation.

Here’s the official Nissan video explaining the system –

Safety Saturday – Blind Spot Warning System Explained

Blind Spot Warning System on the Nissan Rogue

Nissan’s Blind Spot Warning System helps alert drivers if a vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. Depending on the vehicle, the system uses either radar sensors mounted near each corner of the rear bumper or the wide-angle rearview camera of the RearView Monitor to detect vehicles in adjacent lanes.

If a vehicle is detected in the blind spot area, the system illuminates an indicator light near the A-pillar or in the outside mirror, depending on the vehicle. The indicator light is illuminated on the same side of the vehicle as the vehicle detected in the adjacent lane. If the driver then uses the turn signal to indicate a turn into the adjacent lane where the other vehicle is detected, the indicator begins to flash and an audible warning sounds.

The radar sensors can detect vehicles on either side of the vehicle within the detection zone. The forward limit of the detection zone aligns with the outside mirror of the vehicle and extends rearward approximately 10 feet beyond the rear bumper and approximately 10 feet to the sides.

This advanced safety system is available on many Nissan models. Stop by Nissan of LaGrange and let us show you great technology in action.

2015 Nissan Murano awarded Top Safety Pick +

The Murano had to score “Good” in five important categories….

Top Safety Pick + Rating for the 2015 Nissan Murano

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2015 Nissan Murano a Top Safety Pick +, their highest rating.

What makes a Top Safety Pick +? The Murano had to score “Good” in five important categories including: roof strength, side impact, the head restraint test, and both overlap tests. The overlap tests replicate what happens when a vehicle hits another vehicle, utility pole, or tree. Those “Good” results allowed the Murano to achieve Top Safety Pick Status and qualify to compete for the highest level – Top Safety Pick +.

To meet that highest level the Murano had to earn an Advanced or Superior rating in for front crash prevention. The Murano equipped with Forward Emergency Braking achieved the Superior rating and made the Murano one of only three mid-size SUVs to meet this highest rating. Here’s the latest video from Nissan showing how this technology works.

Come by Nissan of LaGrange in LaGrange, GA and we can demonstrate the Forward Emergency Braking in person. Don’t worry, we will be careful and won’t run into anything.
