TPMS Highlights –
- TPMS typically consists of four valve stem/air pressure sensors (transponders), a low tire pressure warning control unit, and an antenna.
- If a tire’s pressure drops to approximately 26 psi, a warning light graphic on the dash illuminates to alert the driver of low tire pressure.
- Select vehicles also have Easy-Fill Tire Alert, which enables proper inflation without the need for a tire pressure gauge. Once the right air pressure is reached the horn will honk.
What Is TPMS?
The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerts the driver to low pressure in any tire. On select Nissan vehicles, the system also includes Easy-Fill Tire Alert, which makes it easy to fill a tire to the correct pressure without the use of a tire pressure gauge.
How It Works
TPMS typically consists of four valve stem/air pressure sensors (transponders), a low tire pressure warning control unit (Body Control Module), and an antenna. A sensor/transponder is integrated with the tire’s valve stem, and transmits a signal, indicating tire pressure, in the form of radio waves. The control unit receives the signal through an antenna. Each transponder is coded and initialized to the vehicle at the factory.
If a tire’s pressure drops to approximately 26 psi, a warning light graphic on the dash illuminates to alert the driver to low pressure.
System capabilities vary depending on the Nissan vehicle. On some Nissans, the system features only the warning light. On others, the system also displays individual tire pressure readings as part of the trip computer readout, Vehicle Information System, or Advanced Drive-Assist Display.
